Artesia Volume Two – Work begins slowly…

Hello Readers!

Although it hasn’t been long since the launch of Artesia Volume One back in April (I’ve been working hard on fixing the broken distribution networks and areas that no one talks about after going through IngramSpark for all those various retailers, library systems and other end book shops) I am proceeding forward with starting work on Volume 2  in hopes that by the time I finish the second book people will have discovered Volume One and be begging for more! A writer must keep writing, after all but hang in there, it will be a while yet!

A Quick update on Libraries

Artesia Volume One is now available on CloudLibrary and can be found by using this link here for any libraries looking to add to their collections:

Update on Volume Two!

Volume Two is progressing slowly however as I have taken a bit of break from writing due to a lot of life things getting in my way. Sadly, I’ve also had some deaths in the family casting a major shadow over things as well.. however I am now contemplating the plot carefully and also to trying to tie some things up from the first book and also propel the plot forward into future books (yes Artesia will be at least a 3 book series, if not more). I am developing some additional characters and new villains and generally just trying to see what works and what i like going forward. The basic plot is in my head and slowly getting to paper however i am exploring options on the best way to write Volume Two in a self contained novel. The writing process can also sometimes be challengeing and the Volume Two plot is actually proving to be an understatement in its complexity however I’m still working on it and am just in the very initial stages. I am enjoying the creative process again rather than the final edits where word count and sentence structure and typos or word flow mattered more on that last 8th and final draft of Volume One.

Writing Process

Developing my own writing process and data folder structure filing system left over from Volume One has largely been beneficial (saving time) but has been challenging to recreate the process as the first book was created first a screenplay and then I had to learn how to turn it into a book. So in essence my intial process is different but I am reworking the process a bit to figure out a better way to simply write straight into a book. Something that because of knowing the process now, might end up being easier. Writing a book is complicated, long and a lot of work.

It’s going to take a long while to even finalize the Second Volume’s plot structure as i’m still designing/writing it as we speak and things change A LOT in the beginning. Take anything I say now with ‘a grain of salt’. Once the general overall structure is there with scenes, plot twists, rough story and character arcs etc. then I fill in the rest of the novel by adding and scrutinizing dialog and then breaking down each chapter and adding description etc. But i’m getting ahead of myself…

First i am working on a flowing short treatment and just writing out scenes and watching the movie in my head trying to work out the several plot lines taking place in the treatment. I probably should map them out better but its hard to map out things when you haven’t yet figure out how things will exactly progress or where things don’t work out well. and tie in where you want to end up or how the book will end…

Writing is re-writing im afraid so this all may change several drafts down the line too but i hope that by the time I write draft 3 or 4 it would have solidified by then but that’s a long way away yet from where I am. It’s better to spend more time upfront thinking and creating and changing now then than later on. I like plotting the bones of the story first then adding a pantser approach for each scene. Knowing where i’m going sort of ahead of time is kinda like the old days when you had a map that you only pulled out when you got lost but at least you had it. Plotting everything ahead is like using GPS. Its precise, kinda hard to achieve because of the tech requirements (but easier to use) but also doesn’t leave room for much creativity or adventures you may not have had along the way when you got lost.. so a combination or hybrid approach is where im aiming at.

Completion Date?

I wont and never will give a finish date but im estimating at least another 3 years (possibly more, possibly less) to write Volume Two. Could be more or less with edits.. and then all of the production to get it to market again. this will assume everything goes right and no major life circumstances occur in the meantime distracting me. Life has become very unpredictable lately. You see, I am more like George R.R. Martin in that I take a long time to write books more than a writer then say a Stephen King, who can churn out many books a year (thats definitely not me). I’m slow but id also rather focus on quality as well.

Artesia Volume Two Teaser

The Second Volume is also going to be a bit darker in theme but also capture some of the adventure and scary bits from Volume One while we also explore a new realm and expand our understanding of things and the past history of Artesia.

Here is a (very) rough teaser description of a basic plotline paragraph for Volume Two (subject to change):

The children get into more trouble and return to Artesia. Lucas must rescue his sister from evil forces who have taken her from Earth. Some time has passed in Artesia with many changes but this time things are more serious and something dark is on the horizon. Lucas travels to Artesia (and beyond) and must find and rescue his sister and then escape back home to Earth and get back to mom however pandora’s box may have been opened.. Something is happening in all realms and in the universe between realms and even Earth is having repercussions as a result from something yet unknown. The Realm of Artesia itself is once again under siege, this time from corruption, lies and mysterious magical shifts and evil conjured armies lead by unknown evil foes. With new enemies, realms and a universal of magic under threat, will the children be able to prevail and help survive these latest threats and challenges?

That’s all I can reveal for now!
